The train left the station
Imagine arriving at the train station late, only to find that the train has already left—or perhaps you had an outdated schedule and arrived just a little too late. What a disappointment!
תָּאֲרוּ לָכֶם שֶׁאַתֶּם מַגִּיעִים לְתַחֲנַת הָרַכֶּבֶת ב ְּאִיחוּר, וְהָרַכֶּבֶת כְּבָר עָזְבָה אֶת הַתַּחֲנָה אוֹ שֶׁבְּמִקְרֶה לֹא הָיָה לָכֶם לוּחַ זְמַנִּים מְעוּדְכָּן וְהִגַּעֲתֶּם לְתַחֲנַת הָרַכֶּבֶת, אֲבָל הָרַכֶּבֶת כְּבָר עָזְבָה אֶת הַתַּחֲנָה.. אֵיזוֹ אַכְזָבָה!!
In other words, if the train has already departed, it likely means you won’t get to where you wanted to go—at least not at the time you had planned.

People use this expression to convey disappointment over something that will no longer happen and to remind us that delaying decisions isn’t always a good idea.
מִי שֶׁמִּשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה רוֹצֶה לְהַבִּיעַ אַכְזָבָה עַל מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁכְּבָר לֹא יִקְרֶה וּלְהַזְכִּיר לָנוּ שֶׁלֹּא כְּדַאי לִדְחוֹת הַחְלָטוֹת.
For example, if someone wants to enroll in university but hesitates, postponing the moment they need to go and complete the registration process, eventually, the enrollment period will end—and they will miss their opportunity for the year. What a shame…
