Smart in the night
Smart at night is a nickname for someone who is not smart at all!
חָכָם בַּלַּיְלָה הוּא כִּינּוּי לְמִי שֶׁהוּא בִּ כְלָל לֹא חָכָם!
He tries to show that he is smart, but actually does not understand anything about the subject he is talking about and is actually talking nonsense.
הוּא מְנַסֶּה לְהַרְאוֹת שֶׁהוּא חָכָם, אֲבָל בְּעֶצֶם לֹא מֵבִין כְּלוּם בַּנּוֹשֵׂא שֶׁעָלָיו הוּא מְדַבֵּר וּלְמַעֲשֶׂה מְדַבֵּר שְׁטוּיוֹת.
Our politicians (no matter what country) often try to show us that they understand the subject they are talking about, but we feel that they are just "smart at night".
הַפּוֹלִיטִיקָאִים שֶׁלָּנוּ (לֹא חָשׁוּב בְּאֵיזוֹ מְדִינָה) הַרְבֵּה פְּעָמִים מְנַסִּים לְהַרְאוֹת לָנוּ שֶׁהֵם מְבִינִים אֶת הַנּוֹשֵׂא שֶׁעָלָיו הֵם מְדַבְּרִים אֲבָל אֲנַחְנוּ מַרְגִּישִׁים שֶׁהֵם סְתָם "חֲכָמִים בַּלַּיְלָה".
We often try to tell our children to learn from the experiences of adults and not to be "smart at night", but this does not always help us, they do not always listen...
הַרְבֵּה פְּעָמִים אֲנַחְנוּ מְנַסִּים לוֹמַר לַיְּלָדִים שֶׁלָּנוּ שֶׁיִּלְמְדוּ מִנִּסְיוֹנָם שֶׁל הַמְּבוּגָּרִים וְשֶׁלֹּא יִהְיוּ "חֲכָמִים בַּלַּיְלָה", אֲבָל זֶה לֹא תָּמִיד עוֹזֵר לָנוּ, הֵם לֹא תָּמִיד מַקְשִׁיבִים...
