הַיְדַעְתֶּם? ה ַמַּזְלֵג הִגִּיעַ לָרִאשׁוֹנָה לְאִטַלְיָה רַק בַּמֵּאָה הַ – 11 וְהֶחֱזִיקוּ בְּאֶמְצָעוּתוֹ אֶת הַבָּשָׂר כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא יָזוּז בִּזְמַן שֶׁחָתְכוּ אוֹתוֹ.
אֶת הַבָּשָׂר אָכְלוּ בַּיָּדַיִם...
Only in the 16th century did they make forks with three or four prongs to eat pasta.
רַק בַּמֵּאָה הַ-16 הֵכִינוּ מַזְלְגוֹת עִם שָׁלוֹשׁ וְאַרְבַּע שִׁינַּיִם כְּדֵי לֶאֱכוֹל פַּסְטָה.
Did you notice that the plural of fork is "MAZLEGOT"? The plural form of the word ends with the letters "ות" even though the word fork is masculine. This issue somewhat "drives my students crazy," but what can we do... The "ות" ending isn't always a sign of feminine.
For example: Father - Fathers, Lion - Lions.
שַׂמְתֶּם לֵב שֶׁהַרְבֵּה מַזְלֵג זֶה מַזְלְגוֹת?
לַמִּילָּה בְּרַבִּים יֵשׁ סִיּוֹמֶת 'ות' אֲפִילּוּ שֶׁהַמִּילָּה מַזְלֵג הִיא בְּזָכָר.
זֶה נוֹשֵׂא שֶׁקְּצָת "מְשַׁגֵּעַ" אֶת הַתַּלְמִידִים שֶׁלִּי, אֲבָל אֵין מָה לַעֲשׂוֹת... סִיּוֹמֶת 'ות' הִיא לֹא תָּמִיד סִימָן לִנְקֵבָה.
לְמָשָׁל: אָב – אָבוֹת, אַרְיֵה – אֲרָיוֹת.

3. If you want to eat spaghetti, you can twirl the spaghetti on the fork.
