Grandson - Granddaughter
The grandson is the son of the son or daughter, and the granddaughter is the daughter of the son or daughter.
הַנֶּכֶד הוּא הַבֵּן שֶׁל הַבֵּן אוֹ הַבַּת, וְהַנֶּכְדָּה הִיא הַבַּת שֶׁל הַבֵּן אוֹ הַבַּת.
There are families in which the grandchildren grow up with their grandparents, either in a sad case where the parents of the children passed away, or a happier case where the parents are working and the grandparents take care of their grandchildren while the parents are at work.
יֵשׁ מִשְׁפָּחוֹת שֶׁבָּהֶן הַנְּכָדִים גְּדֵלִים אֵצֶל הַסַּבָּא וְהַסָּבְתָא בֵּין אִם זֶה מִקְרֶה עָצוּב שֶׁבּוֹ הַהוֹרִים שֶׁל הַיְּלָדִים נִפְטְרוּ, אוֹ מִקְרֶה יוֹתֵר שָׂמֵחַ שֶׁבּוֹ הַהוֹרִים עוֹבְדִים וְהַסַּבָּא וְהַסָּבְתָא מְטַפְּלִים בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶם בִּזְמַן שֶׁהַהוֹרִים בָּעֲבוֹדָה.
However, humans are a minority in nature where both the grandfather and grandmother take care of their grandchildren.
אֲבָל הָאָדָם הוּא בִּקְבוּצַת הַמִּיעוּט הַקְּטַנָּה בַּטֶּבַע, שֶׁבָּהּ גַּם הַסַּבָּא וְגַם הַסָּבְתָא מְטַפְּלִים בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶם.
Most creatures in nature do not take care of their grandchildren. Among the creatures in nature that do take care of their grandchildren, only the females take care of their grandchildren and not the males. For example: female elephants take care of their grandchildren, but not male elephants.
רוֹב הַיְּצוּרִים בַּטֶּבַע אֵינָם מְטַפְּלִים בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶם. מִבֵּין הַיְּצוּרִים בַּטֶּבַע שֶׁכֵּן מְטַפְּלִים בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶם, רַק הַנְּקֵבוֹת מְטַפְּלוֹת בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶן וְלֹא הַזְּכָרִים. לְדוּגְמָה: פִּילוֹת מְטַפְּלוֹת בְּנֶכְדֵיהֶן, אַךְ לֹא פִּילִים מִמִּין זָכָר.
