A leaf – Leaves

A leaf is the part of a tree that absorbs sunlight during photosynthesis.

הֶעָלֶה הוּא חֵלֶק מֵהָעֵץ שֶׁקּוֹלֵט אֶת אוֹר הַשֶּׁמֶּשׁ בְּתַהֲלִיךְ הַפוֹטוֹסִינְתֵּזָה.

In autumn, the leaves fall off the tree and the tree is left bare.

בַּסְתַו הֶעָלִים נוֹשְׁרִים (נוֹפְלִים מֵהָעֵץ) וְהָעֵץ נִשְׁאַר עֵירוֹם.

"And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they took fig leaves, and made themselves aprons" (Genesis 3:7)

After eating of the tree of knowledge, Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaves.

"וַתִּפָּקַחְנָה עֵינֵי שְׁנֵיהֶם וַיֵּדְעוּ כִּי עֵירֻמִּם הֵם וַיִּתְפְּרוּ עֲלֵה תְאֵנָה וַיַּעֲשׂוּ לָהֶם חֲגֹרֹת" (בְּרֵאשִׁית ג, פָּסוּק ז)

לְאַחַר שֶׁאָכְלוּ מֵעֵץ הַדַּעַת, אָדָם וְחַוָּה כִּסּוּ אֶת עַצְמָם בֶּעָלֶה שֶׁל תְּאֵנָה.

I love a green salad with lettuce leaves. There are those who make grape leaves stuffed with rice.

And in the winter, I really like to drink a cup of sweet tea with mint leaves in it.

אֲנִי אוֹהֶבֶת סָלַט יְרָקוֹת עִם עָלִים שֶׁל חַסָּה. יֵשׁ כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁמְּכִינִים עֲלֵי גֶּפֶן מְמוּלָּאִים בְּאוֹרֶז. וּבַחוֹרֶף אֲנִי מַמָּשׁ אוֹהֶבֶת לִשְׁתּוֹת כּוֹס תֵּה מָתוֹק עִם עָלִים שֶׁל נַעְנַע בִּפְנִים.
