The palm of the hand is the part located at the end of the arm.
כַּף הַיָּד הִיא הַחֵלֶק שֶׁנִּמְצָא בְּס וֹף הַיָּד.
If we want to eat, we need to wash our hands with water and soap. However, in fact, we will wash the palms of our hands, not the entire hands.
אִם אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לֶאֱכוֹל, עָלֵינוּ לִשְׁטוֹף אֶת הַיָּדַיִם בְּמַיִם וּבְסַבּוֹן, אֲבָל בְּעֶצֶם אֲנַחְנוּ שׁוֹטְפִים אֶת כַּפּוֹת הַיָּדַיִם וְלֹא אֶת כָּל הַיָּדַיִם.
This expression can be confusing. Its meaning is not physical, implying clean palms; rather, it represents innocence or lack of guilt.
הַבִּיט ּוּי הַזֶּה יָכוֹל לְבַלְבֵּל.
הַמַּשְׁמָעוּת שֶׁל הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה אֵינָהּ פִיזִית, כְּלוֹמַר שֶׁכַּפּוֹת הַיָּדַיִם נְקִיּוֹת.
מַשְׁמָעוּת הַבִּיטּוּי הִיא חוֹסֶר אַשְׁמָה.
For example, if a crime occurs and the police manage to uncover the group of people who committed it, after an investigation, it might be revealed that one individual from the group is "clean-handed," meaning he did not participate in the act and is not guilty.
אִם הִתְרַחֵשׁ אֵיזֶשֶׁהוּא פֶּשַׁע וְהַמִּשְׁטָרָה הִצְלִיחָה לְגַלּוֹת אֶת קְבוּצַת הָאֲנָשִׁים שֶׁבִּצְּעָה אֶת הַפֶּשַׁע, יִתָּכֵן שֶׁלְּאַחַר חֲקִירָה יִתְבָּרֵר שֶׁאַחַד הָאֲנָשִׁים מִתּוֹךְ הַקְּבוּצָה הוּא 'נְקִי כַּפַּיִם', כְּלוֹמַר לֹא הִשְׁתַּתֵּף בַּמַּעֲשֶׂה וְאֵינוֹ אָשֵׁם.
