פֶּסַח - Passover

חַיָּב כָּל אָדָם לִרְאוֹת עַצְמוֹ כְּאִילּוּ הוּא יָצָא מִמִּצְרַיִם

Everyone should consider himself
as if he is the one who left Egypt

This phrase is read in the Passover Haggadah during the Seder night, yet it serves us throughout the entire year.

אֶת הַמִּשְׁפָּט הַזֶּה אֲנַחְנוּ קוֹרְאִים בַּהַגָּדָה שֶׁל פֶּסַח בְּלֵיל הַסֵּדֶר, אֲבָל לְמַעֲשֶׂה הוּא מְשַׁמֵּשׁ אוֹתָנוּ כָּל הַשָּׁנָה.

First and foremost, it’s clear that we must never forget this significant event that happened to the people of Israel and continue to pass its story on to future generations.

קוֹדֶם כֹּל, זֶה בָּרוּר שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ צְרִיכִים לֹא לִשְׁכּוֹחַ אֶת הָאֵירוּעַ הֶחָשׁוּב הַזֶּה שֶׁקָּרָה לְעַם יִשְׂרָאֵל וּלְהַעֲבִיר אוֹתוֹ לַדּוֹרוֹת הַבָּאִים.

However, when we speak about the Exodus from Egypt, we aren’t just referring to the physical departure from the land of Egypt or liberation from slavery into freedom. It also symbolizes breaking free from the chains that hold us back in life—those barriers preventing us from progressing, achieving our dreams, and flourishing.

אֲבָל כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מְדַבְּרִים עַל יְצִיאָה מִמִּצְרַיִם אֲנַחְנוּ לֹא מְדַבְּרִים רַק עַל עֲזִיבָה פִיזִית שֶׁל אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם וְעַל שִׁחְרוּר מֵעַבְדוּת לְחֵרוּת אֶלָּא עַל הַכְּבָלִים שֶׁמַּחֲזִיקִים אוֹתָנוּ בַּחַיִּים וּמוֹנְעִים מֵאִתָּנוּ לְהִתְקַדֵּם, לְהַגְשִׁים אֶת הַחֲלוֹמוֹת שֶׁלָּנוּ וְלִפְרוֹחַ.

The message of this phrase is one of encouragement. If we view ourselves throughout the year as though we personally experienced the Exodus from Egypt, we can find the strength to overcome the various hardships and obstacles in life.

הַמֶּסֶר שֶׁל הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הוּא מֶסֶר שֶׁל עִידוּד כִּי אִם אֲנַחְנוּ נִרְאֶה אֶת עַצְמֵנוּ בְּמֶשֶׁךְ כָּל הַשָּׁנָה כְּאִילּוּ אֲנַחְנוּ בְּעַצְמֵנוּ יָצָאנוּ מִמִּצְרַיִם נוּכַל לְהִתְגַּבֵּר עַל קְשָׁיִים וּמִכְשׁוֹלִים שׁוֹנִים שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָנוּ בַּחַיִּים.
