כְּצֹאן לְטֶבַח

Like a flock to the slaughter
When sheep are taken to slaughter, they are unaware of it and, naturally, do not resist.
כַּאֲשֶׁר הַכְּבָשִׂים נִלְקָחוֹת לִשְׁחִיטָה, הֵן לֹא מוּדָעוֹת לְכָךְ וְכַמּוּבָן לֹא מִתְנַגְּדוֹת.
This expression was widely used during the Holocaust. Most Jews did not resist the actions of the Nazis during World War II, and it was said of them that they were taken "like sheep to the slaughter."
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הָיָה בְּשִׁימּוּשׁ רַב בִּזְמַן הַשּׁוֹאָה. רוֹב הַיְּהוּדִים לֹא הִתְנַגְּדוּ לְמַעֲשֵׂי הַנָּאצִים בִּזְמַן מִלְחֶמֶת הָעוֹלָם הַשְּׁנִיָּה וְנֶאֱמַר עֲלֵיהֶם שֶׁהֵם נִלְקְחוּ "כַּצֹּאן לַטֶּבַח".
However, some used this phrase in its opposite meaning, creating various forms of resistance to the Nazi actions, declaring: "We will not go like sheep to the slaughter."
יֵשׁ גַּם כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁהִשְׁתַּמְּשׁוּ בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה בַּמַּשְׁמָעוּת הַהֲפוּכָה שֶׁלּוֹ וְיָצְרוּ כָּל מִינֵי סוּגִים שֶׁל הִתְנַגְּדוּת לְמַעֲשֵׂי הַנָּאצִים בְּאוֺמְרָם: "לֹא נֵלֵךְ כַּצֹּאן לַטֶּבַח".
A good example of this is the partisans, who fled to the forests and carried out acts of retaliation against the Nazis, refusing to be "like sheep to the slaughter."
דּוּגְמָא טוֹבָה לְכָךְ הֵם הַפַּרְטִיזָנִים שֶׁבָּרְחוּ לַיְּעָרוֹת וּבִצְּעוּ כָּל מִינֵי מַעֲשֵׂי תַּגְמוּל כְּנֶגֶד הַנָּאצִים כִּי לֹא הִסְכִּימוּ לִהְיוֹת "כַּצֹּאן לַטֶּבַח".
