The strawberry on the whipped cream

We usually have a lot of whipped cream and one cherry on top in a cake.

בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל יֵשׁ לָנוּ בָּעוּגָה כַּמּוּת גְּדוֹלָה שֶׁל קַצֶּפֶת וְדוּבְדְּבָן אֶחָד לְמַעְלָה.

So, we use this expression metaphorically, meaning not necessarily related to food, when we mean something special or different or excellent.

אָז אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה בְּאוֹפֶן מֵטָאפוֹרִי, כְּלוֹמַר לֹא בְּהֶכְרֵחַ קָשׁוּר לִתְחוּם הָאוֹכֶל, כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מִתְכַּוְּנִים לְמַשֶּׁהוּ מְיוּחָד אוֹ שׁוֹנֶה אוֹ מוּבְחָר.

Note: The whipped cream is good as well, but the cherry is better, meaning the cherry on the whipped cream is the best of the best.

שִׂימוּ לֵב: הַקַּצֶּפֶת הִיא גַּם טוֹבָה, אֲבָל הַדּוּבְדְּבָן יוֹתֵר טוֹב, כְּלוֹמַר הַדּוּבְדְּבָן שֶׁבַּקַּצֶּפֶת הוּא הַמּוּבְחָר מִבֵּין הַטּוֹבִים.

For example: Let's imagine that we went on a trip and visited wonderful places and at the end of the trip there was a great activity waiting for us that we enjoyed more than the entire trip. We would say that this activity was the cherry on the whipped cream.

לְדוּגְמָא: בּוֹאוּ נְדַמְיֵן שֶׁנָּסַעְנוּ לְטִיּוּל וּבִקַּרְנוּ בִּמְקוֹמוֹת נֶהְדָּרִים וּבְסוֹף הַטִּיּוּל חִכְּתָה לָנוּ פְּעִילוּת נֶהְדֶּרֶת שֶׁנֶּהֱנֵינוּ בָּהּ יוֹתֵר מִכָּל הַטִּיּוּל כּוּלּוֹ. אֲנַחְנוּ נֹאמַר שֶׁהַפְּעִילוּת הַזֹּאת הָיְתָה הַדּוּבְדְּבָן שֶׁבַּקַּצֶּפֶת.
