הִתְקַלֵּף כְּמוֹ בָּצַל

He was peeled off like an onion
If we take an onion and peel it, we can keep peeling and get many layers of onion.
אִם אֲנַחְנוּ לוֹקְחִים בָּצָל וּמְקַלְּפִים אוֹתוֹ, אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לְהַמְשִׁיךְ וּלְקַלֵּף הַרְבֵּה שְׁכָבוֹת שֶׁל בָּצָל.
That's the point – the layers.
In the winter, some people dress in many layers: a tank top, a shirt, a cardigan or a sweater and a coat as well.
זֶה הָעִנְיָן – הַשְּׁכָבוֹת.
בִּימוֹת הַחוֹרֶף, יֵשׁ אֲנָשִׁים שֶׁמִּתְלַבְּשִׁים בְּהַרְבֵּה שְׁכָבוֹת: גּוּפִיָּה, חוּלְצָה, אֲפוּדָּה אוֹ סְוֵדֶר וְגַם מְעִיל.
When they enter a place with heating on, they have to take off all the layers and then we say: "They peel like an onion".
כְּשֶׁהֵם נִכְנָסִים לְמָקוֹם שֶׁיֵּשׁ בּוֹ חִימּוּם הֵם חַיָּבִים לְהוֹרִיד אֶת כָּל הַשְּׁכָבוֹת וְאָ ז אֲנַחְנוּ אוֹמְרִים: "הֵם מִתְקַלְּפִים כְּמוֹ בָּצָל".
We can also use this expression in the therapeutic field – psychological. A person who goes to therapy peels layers of his soul and sometimes at the end he also cries like people cry when peeling onions.
אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה גַּם בַּתְּחוּם הַטִּיפּוּלִי – נַפְשִׁי. אָדָם שֶׁהוֹלֵךְ לְטִיפּוּל פְּסִיכוֹלוֹגִי, מְקַלֵּף שְׁכָבוֹת מֵהַנֶּפֶשׁ שֶׁלּוֹ וְלִפְעָמִים בַּסּוֹף הוּא גַם בּוֹכֶה כְּמוֹ שֶׁבּוֹכִים כְּשֶׁמְּקַלְּפִים בָּצָל.
