Jump into deep water
When I use the phrase "to jump into deep water", I want to describe a situation where I enter a new, challenging, or complex scenario without prior preparation or experience. It is used to express courage, risk-taking, or the decision to try something significant despite fears.
"Jumping into deep water" is an opportunity for growth, because it is precisely in such situations that a person discovers they are capable of more than they thought.
כְּשֶׁאֲנִי מִשְׁתַּמֶּשֶׁת בַּבִּיטּוּי "לִקְפּוֹץ לְמַיִם עֲמוּקִּים" אֲנִי רוֹצָה לְתָאֵר מַצָּב שֶׁבּוֹ אֲנִי נִכְנֶסֶת לְסִיטוּאַצְיָה חֲדָשָׁה, מְאַתְגֶּרֶת אוֹ מוּרְכֶּבֶת, בְּלִי הֲכָנָה מוּקְדֶּמֶת אוֹ נִסָּיוֹן קוֹדֵם. זֶה מְשַׁמֵּשׁ לְהַבָּעַת אוֹמֶץ, סִיכּוּן, אוֹ אֲפִילּוּ הַחְלָטָה לְנַסּוֹת מַשֶּׁהוּ גָּדוֹל לַמְרוֹת הַחֲשָׁשׁוֹת.
"לִקְפּוֹץ לְמַיִם עֲמוּקִּים" זֹאת הִזְדַּמְּנוּת לִצְמִיחָה, כִּי דַּוְקָא בְּמַצָּבִים כָּאֵלֶּה הָאָדָם מְגַלֶּה שֶׁהוּא מְסוּגָּל לְיוֹתֵר מִמָּה שֶׁחָשַׁב.
For example: Sometimes, people decide to make a big change in their lives and move to another country. It can be said that they have chosen to "jump into deep water" because they do not know the place, they do not know the language, and they are certainly unsure whether they will thrive there.
לְמָשָׁל: לִפְעָמִים אֲנָשִׁים מַחֲלִיטִים לַעֲשׂוֹת שִׁינּוּי גָּדוֹל בַּחַיִּים וְלַעֲבוֹר לָגוּר בְּאֶרֶץ אַחֶרֶת. אֶפְשָׁר לְהַגִּיד עֲלֵיהֶם שֶׁהֵם הֶחְלִיטוּ "לִקְפּוֹץ לְמַיִם עֲמוּקִּים" כִּי הֵם לֹא מַכִּירִים אֶת הַמָּקוֹם, לֹא מַכִּירִים אֶת הַשָּׂפָה וּבְוַדַּאי לֹא בְּטוּחִים שֶׁיִּהְיֶה לָהֶם טוֹב שָׁם.
Some people work for years as employees and at some point, decide to "jump into deep water" and start their own business. There are many aspects that an employee does not have to deal with, but when starting a business, they must handle all of them.
יֵשׁ אֲנָשִׁים שֶׁעוֹבְדִים הַרְבֵּה שָׁנִים כִּשְׂכִירִים וּבְאֵיזֶשֶׁהוּא שָׁלָב מַחְלִיטִים "לִקְפּוֹץ לְמַיִם עֲמוּקִּים" וְלִפְתּוֹחַ עֵסֶק עַצְמָאִי. יֵ שׁ הַרְבֵּה מְאוֹד דְּבָרִים שֶׁכְּעוֹבֵד שָׂכִיר אַתָּה לֹא צָרִיךְ לְהִתְמוֹדֵד אִיתָּם וּכְשֶׁאַתָּה פּוֹתֵחַ עֵסֶק אַתָּה חַיָּב לְטַפֵּל בָּהֶם.
Receiving a new job position, especially without previous experience in that field, is also like "jumping into deep water". At first, one must learn the procedures, ask questions, get to know the team, and learn through trial and error, hopefully making as few mistakes as possible.
גַּם לְקַבֵּל תַּפְקִיד חָדָשׁ בִּמְיוּחָד כְּשֶׁאֵין נִסָּיוֹן קוֹדֵם בַּתְּחוּם זֶה כְּמוֹ "לִקְפּוֹץ לְמַיִם עֲמוּקִּים". בַּהַתְחָלָה, צָרִיךְ לִלְמוֹד אֶת הַנְּהָלִים, לִשְׁאוֹל שְׁאֵלוֹת, לְהַכִּיר אֶת הַצֶּוֶת וְלִלְמוֹד דֶּרֶךְ נִיסּוּי וּטְעִיָּה, בְּתִקְוָה שֶׁיִּהְיוּ כַּמָּה שֶׁפָּחוֹת טָעוּיוֹת.
